REALLY NICE EXPERIENCE
Everything is beyond my expectation, people there are nice, beautiful view with decilious food. They can also help us arrange whatever kind of activity we like. It’s a really nice experience. I would like to be there again if there’s a chance in the nearby future. 100% recommendation.
WONDERFUL SETTING, BEUTIFUL ROOMS AND AMAZING KIND, THOUGHTFUL STAFF
Beautiful country setting 10 mins out of Ubud. Incredibly relaxing. Great food. Wonderful staff. Can’t say I’ve stayed anywhere better!
RELAXING, LUXURIOUS, AND UNIQUE
We were a group of 8 friends. Villa Vajra is nestled into a lush jungle and rice field setting. We were astonished at the beauty both surrounding the villa and the balinese and modern designs within the villa itself. We also felt safe with their security, and welcomed by the friendly staff. The food: the staff makes exquisite meals at very reasonable prices. We dined in the open common area, and felt like royalty! Breakfast is a choice of western-style or Balinese – delicious! The staff is very helpful in organizing activities and arranging transportation. They also collected our laundry and returned it the next day, fresh and folded, for a very reasonable fee. The rooms were very nice and each one is different. The owner Joel is very friendly, and he came by a few times to visit and he gave us some great restaurant recommendations in Ubud. We also enjoyed the beautiful pool, jacuzzi, lounge area, and the terraced walkways. We wish we could have stayed longer!

OUR OWN PARADISE IN UBUD
A group of friends and I came to Bali to celebrate my 40th birthday. We stayed four nights at the Villa Vajra in Ubud before moving to another villa in the Bukit Peninsula for three nights. From the moment we arrived, Gusti (the Villa Manager) and the rest of the Villa staff (Made, Ketut, Sabah and Wede) catered for all our needs – they cooked/ ordered for us delicious Balinese and Indonesian food when we wanted to eat in and made recommendations for restaurants in Ubud when we wanted to eat out; helped organise massages and yoga and made recommendations for local cultural events and art and crafts galleries in Ubud; and made us feel right at home at the Villa. The staff at the Villa are highly professional, discreet and full of Balinese warmth. The Villa is beautifully presented with the use of traditional and modern design; all bedrooms and bathrooms are large, comfortable and immaculate; there is a large living and dining space that opens out completely onto an external patio and pool area, giving a wonderful sense of space and freedom. There is a meditation / massage area in the lower level set amidst a beautiful garden. The villa is nestled into rice paddies on one side and sits at the top of a ridge over looking a valley on the other side – it is very private with no other adjacent properties. Joel and Nigrantha (the owners) live close by in a separate villa across the paddies. They were the most interesting and gracious hosts with two adorable dogs in tow. They told me that most people who come to stay at the Villa Vajra often wish they had booked for a longer stay. How right they are – four nights was not enough to fully appreciate what charms of this Villa. I could not have wished for a more beautiful place to come with my friends. Thanks you all very much.
MAGICAL AND DELIGHTFUL VILLA VAJRA
My husband and I have been to Villa Vajra twice, each time we come to Ubud. Our hosts and their staff were superb, attentive, and friendly in all ways. We were served with delicious food every meals, and the staff really went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. The accommodation was clean, beautiful, and spacious. I especially enjoy the private swimming pool with waterfall, the tranquil ricefield and garden. We definitely would come back and stay again and recommend Villa Vajra to other travelers to Ubud.
SOLITUDE AND BEAUTY
Wonderful location, nestled privately on the edge of the rice fields. Magnificent gardens, and beautiful hill top walk into Ubud. Most helpful staff makes the stay a pure pleasure. Place to enjoy nature and recharge your batteries, away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud, but still close enough to enjoy all the city has to offer. Five stars.
I recently had the pleasure of staying here with my family daughter/son-in-law and my three grandchildren. We all had the most wonderful experience on so many levels. The staff are beautiful, kind and thoughtful people how go the extra mile. The food is pure Balinese as it should be. This is rural Bali with the accompanying culture. I’m thrilled that the children have had such a wonderful introduction to Bali. We were there during the preparations for Sawaswati so Gamelan practices were heard over the rice paddies. Much nicer than the tram going past my place. And fireflies in the rice paddies at night. Our joy was to count them each night. Then there was kite flying in the afternoons but we weren’t as successful as the Balinese at this. Still there’s ways next time. Thank you to each and every one of you. Staff, fireflies, geckos and gamelans made Bali come to life.
BREATHTAKING VILLA MADE OUR FAMILY GETAWAY UNFORGETTABLE
As soon as we walked through the gate and towards the villa I knew that we had chosen the most wonderful place to stay whilst in Ubud. This was our first trip to Ubud and I hit the jackpot by booking Villa Vajra! The villa is so gorgeous. Even walking into it over the rice fields makes it exciting and so different. We had 3 couples and 3 kids in total in the villa. The kids were all happy in one room and all the couples got a room to themselves. It is perfectly designed so everyone has their own space but you can all meet up for dinner or in the lounge area for a chat. The pool and spa were great – the kids barely got out of it most days! Gusti, the villa manager, arranged for massages in the meditation pavillion at the villa for us and it was the most amazing massage. The walk into Ubud from the villa is really worthwhile doing. Gorgeous views of the rainforest and valleys. They can also arrange to do a village tour and trek with some local guides. We went along and it was really great to get out into the everyday life of Ubud and meet the locals. The staff truly made our holiday really special. Gusti is such a wonderful person and so incredibly helpful. Ketut makes the best banana pancakes! The meals we had at the villa were delicious. Thank you so much to Gusti, Ketut and all the staff at Villa Vajra and a big thank you to Joel (the owner). We miss you and want to come back! I’m already planning another visit.
AN OASIS OF RELAXATION AND LOCAL AMBIENCE
The food was amazing. Try the steamed fish in banana leaf, heaven, and the beef rendang. The fish wraps for lunch were a favorite. The wonderful staff can organize a massage in the private and tranquil gardens, and when we were celebrating a birthday they organized live gamelan music with dinner and a small dance performance with some children which made for a memorable birthday. It’s a delightful hour walk into Ubud for some exercise then taxi back, but often we were more happy lying around the pool enjoying the serenity. We used the villas driver for some excursions and day trips and airport pick up. Gusti is attentive and knowledgeable and a real asset to Vila vajra. We are already dreaming of our return.
My friend Steve and I had an amazing time at Vajra Villa. The oasis-like setting is exquisite – hundreds of tropical flowers, a rice field outside your front door – and the house we stayed in was spacious and lovely and well-ventilated. We awoke early each morning and at 6:30 a.m. were brought coffee by one of the household staff, Saba or Widi. A delicious breakfast of tropical fruits and scrambled eggs followed. Every single meal was outstanding. The two cooks, Made and Ketut, created wonders consistently for breakfast, lunch, dinner. Our host Joel was gracious and thoughtful, extending every courtesy and helping to familiarize us with the Ubud area. Each time we ventured into town, he would draw a map showing how to find our destination. He told us how much to pay the taxi drivers, where to find the best Batik shirts and coffee, where to eat the best Balinese food. Joel arranged for a fantastic Balinese massage therapist to come to our room twice, asked his house manager to give us a tour of the island by car, and took us to a Balinese healer. We also got to meet Joel’s wonderful dogs, Abelard and Eloise. It takes a long time to get to Bali from California – about 25 hours including a layover in Hong Kong – but the time and effort were insignficant. I can’t think of a better introduction to Bali than the one Joel afforded us.
It’s like living in Paradise! For people who enjoy being surrounded by nature in all forms this is the place to visit! It’s beautiful and peaceful. From the aesthetically appealing pathways leading to the villa rooms, through the landscaped gardens, the fishes, the well thought out amenities, the very helpful staff – every aspect was very pleasing. Mr. Joel is a great person to interact with – from all his very helpful suggestions regarding the restaurants and shops.
WHAT A TRANQUIL AND RELAXING PLACE TO STAY
I had a wonderful time! We left as very happy guests.
A BEAUTIFUL AND PEACEFUL PLACE
We absolutely loved every minute of our stay – the perfect spot to rest and relax.
Thank you very much to the lovely staff, will hopefully be back soon!
Mark & Brendan
The Villa Vajra is a lovely accomodation just as it looks in the photos. Delightful staff who have excellent english and looked after us all very well. Food is cooked by a number of trained chefs and is of a very high standard. We went for the Balinese and really enjoyed all the dishes. The local wine is drinkable although its a good idea to bring your duty free allowance in. Gusti transported us into Ubud as needed and we booked the odd trip such as a bike tour with halobike tours from the villa. The owners Joel and Ngarratha are a lovely couple and full of enthusiasm. I took a walk up the local village main street which is interesting – you will meet relatives of the villa staff as you wander up. Overall a really great place to stay in central Bali.
I wish we spent all of our time on the island at Villa Vajra. The accomodations are gorgeous but it is the peace and quiet, the sound of the waterfall by the pool, the meandering garden paths leading down the valley, the fireflies over the stunning rice paddies at night, the sound of the roosters crowing and fog in the valley in the morning and the music that can be heard coming from the nearby temple faintly in the background that make it so magical. I had massages almost daily in the bale which wasn’t so bad either! We had day trips planned in and around Ubud but cancelled and decided to just stay at the villa for the majority of our stay. The staff are friendly and attentive although discreet and not in your face the entire time. Gusti the manager never missed a beat recommending great restaurants, booking them for us, arranging beauty treatments and driving us to Ubud centre and also taking us to an Ogah Ogah parade at a village nearby. We mainly ate in the villa and the chef Ketut is very talented with the food very well priced. The owners are lovely and made the time to come over for a chat. They are very interesting people, we enjoyed hearing about life in Bali from their perspective and learnt a lot. They are talented artists and a photographer and we enjoyed seeing some of their work. My family and I have been to Bali more times than we can count and have stayed in many private villas. I had my wedding in one of the most pricey villas on the island but we all agree that Villa Vajra has been our favourite so far. If you are in need of the ultimate rest and relaxation I absolutely recommend staying here.
AN AMAZING OASIS AMIDST RICE FIELDS AND PALM TREES
What a treat to have stayed at this luxurious villa compound! After passing through the gate, I was overcome with awe and wonder at the sight of rice paddies and a nearby temple. So much relaxation and pampering…! The bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve slept on, and the food was nourishing and delicious. While the staff respected my privacy, it was a joy to spend time with the owners and their two dogs! What a memorable experience; I can’t wait to visit again.
OPEN ARCHITECTURE MELDS THE BEAUTY OF NATURE WITH LUXURY ACCOMODATION
I’ll reflect on some of my Villa Vajra experiences that made our stay different and better than anything I’ve previously experienced. On arrival, all the paths were strewn with flowers. The flowers were on every path and stair step leading all the way up to the petals strewn on our king-size bed, in the huge, filled bathtub (ready for me to jump in), on the towels and even on the toilet tissue. I’ve never received such a welcome or seen so many flowers! The staff welcomed us like family and treated us like honored guests. The first night, masseuses were set up in an open-air cabana overlooking the tropical forest. I had the best massage of my life: the perfect antidote to countless hours on a plane. My first tour of the property revealed beautiful and comfortable furnishings, amazing landscaping, interesting artifacts (I learned what a Vajra is!) and spectacular lighting around the grounds and living spaces. The staff take individual orders for each meal and create truly spectacular food, three times a day. They can drive you to your desired destinations for sightseeing or shopping. I had never had my own driver before and it made a huge difference in our enjoyment of the island. One evening, one of the staff members brought his children to the Villa to demonstrate a Balinese dance for us. The children were in full professional costume and makeup. It was delightful. Things like this create an atmosphere of sincere welcome and hospitality. In the mornings, as the mist rose over the forest, I was able to do my yoga practice in the open-air cabana, surrounded by the sounds and breezes of the jungle. It was fantastic! During the day, one had the option of traveling to one of the many lovely attractions of Bali: whether the beaches or temples or the delightful city of Ubud. Although we saw much of the island, I could easily have spent an entire week exploring Ubud with its many shops and Galleries. The Neka Museum in Ubud was truly outstanding. Or, one can stay at the Villa, enjoying the pool, hot tub, gourmet food and atmosphere of pure relaxation. In the evenings, our group shared meals around a large table, filled with lively conversation and plenty of wine and laughter. Villa Vajra was a new and different level of hospitality for me, and I’m afraid it has spoiled me for all my future trips as I now have a new, much higher standard.

BEST OF BALI: STUNNING LUXURY VILLA, GRACIOUS PEOPLE, IMPECCABLE
Villa Vajra is the most magical, unique, beautiful place I stayed during my three weeks in Indonesia. I looked at lots of different villas and stayed at several other places before checking into Villa Vajra. Nothing compared. It is truly a unique and spectacular estate that affords privacy, tranquility, serenity and luxury. From the moment my husband and I arrived, we found it hard to leave the villa. We loved the indoor-outdoor design of the estate; the outdoor living area and outdoor bathrooms were great. The grounds are stunning- the villa straddles the edge of the rice fields and the crest of a beautiful gorge above a river, with views of the other side of the valley. We loved wandering through the lovely gardens and enjoyed the yoga/meditation pavilion. The villa’s location is close enough to Ubud to enjoy all it has to offer, and yet removed from the hustle and bustle (about a 10 minute drive or a beautiful, highly recommended walk). The staff really made the experience memorable. Gusti, the manager, was friendly and attentive. He arranged in-house massage and yoga, and drove us to Ubud daily. The meals prepared by Ketut and Made, the chefs, were the best I had during my entire time in Bali. We’re both foodies and really enjoyed crafting custom menus based on organic produce and fresh fish. The fish curry steamed in banana leaves was one of the tastiest things I’ve ever had. And Saba (wonderful!) made awesome mojitos. The owners, Joel and Nirgrantha, are gracious hosts with a plethora of knowledge about the area and great recommendations. They live in another villa across the rice paddy with two very sweet Golden Retrievers. We are so glad to have gotten to know them a bit, and look forward to going back next time we’re in Bali.
EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTAIONS
Villa Vajra was the most perfect vacation home. The setting is breathtaking and the staff exceptional from the moment we arrived until we departed 5 days later. We felt like we had become part of the family. The villa has beautiful amenities and it is better than the pictures on the website. The furnishings are lovely and the food terrific. I would give it a 10+++

A VILLA THAT DESERVES A LENGHTY STAY
From the moment we were picked up at the airport by the Villa Vajra staff till we left, we were treated like royalty. This villa is outstanding, perfect for experiencing the essence of Bali. We didn’t want to leave! Villa Vajra is a marvelous picture out of “Architectural Digest”. You’re not in some cookie cutter hotel. Situated in the middle of a rice paddy, we knew we were somewhere special from the moment we walked through the arched plant clad bamboo gate into this creatively built Balinese villa.. There are fabulous areas to relax in. We sampled alfresco dining at its best, served by two fabulous in-house chefs (no need to eat out when we could sample excellent Indonesian food or select from a menu food of our choice). There is a beautiful picturesque pool with cascading falls to relax by or swim in, magnificent landscaped gardens, a tranquil meditation area and the air conditioned bedrooms are nicely appointed with local art and fresh flowers. There’s even an outdoor shower! We experienced what it’s like to live in a Bali village area and yet we were only a ten minute drive to Ubud. Joel, the owner, even pointed out a trail where we could walk to town. We didn’t rent a car as the villa provided a ride into nearby Ubud where we could experience ancient temples, gamelan dancing and shopping for handicrafts and batiks. We liked that free Wi-Fi and internet was provided. Guisti and his staff were just wonderful attending to our needs. Per our request, they arranged massages for our party of five for when we arrived after a 28 hr. plane trip and also booked a great bicycle trip and rafting expedition for us for which we were picked up directly at Villa Vajra… Unbelievable service!!! This is definitely a 5 Star Villa for those who want luxury, serenity, culture and comforts at an affordable price.
